People We Meet on Vacation

Emily Henry’s first book-to-screen adaptation officially kicked things off earlier this year. People We Meet on Vacation stars Tom Blyth as Alex and Emily Bader as Poppy, bringing the beloved friends-to-lovers romance to life after years of fan anticipation.
As someone who loves this book, I was equal parts excited and nervous when the adaptation was announced. Alex and Poppy have such a unique dynamic that the chemistry had to be perfect. Thankfully, seeing one of Emily Henry’s stories finally make it to the screen gives me even more hope for what’s coming next.
Beach Read
Status: Filming
Beach Read is officially in production, and we finally know who’s bringing January and Gus to life.
Phoebe Dynevor (Bridgerton) has been cast as January Andrews, while Patrick Schwarzenegger will play Augustus Everett. The film is directed by Yulin Kuang, who also adapted People We Meet on Vacation for the screen.
I’ll admit, this casting sparked a lot of conversation online—especially Gus. He’s one of the most beloved book boyfriends out there, so expectations are sky-high. I’m keeping an open mind, though. Yulin Kuang clearly understands Emily Henry’s writing, and I’m excited to see her vision come together.
Book Lovers
Status: In Development
Charlie Lastra might just be one of BookTok’s most iconic fictional men, so it’s no surprise Book Lovers is getting its own movie.
The screenplay is being written by Sarah Heyward, but casting is still under wraps. Honestly, this might be the adaptation I’m most nervous about. Nora and Charlie have such distinct personalities that whoever lands these roles has some pretty big shoes to fill.
Happy Place
Status: In Development
Originally planned as a television series, Happy Place has officially shifted gears and is now being developed as a feature film for Netflix, with Jennifer Lopez’s Nuyorican Productions producing.
Fake dating? Second chances? A friend group with years of history? This book has everything I love in a romance, and I can’t wait to see who eventually gets cast as Harriet and Wyn.
Funny Story
Status: In Development
Emily Henry’s newest adaptation is Funny Story, and one detail has me especially excited: Emily Henry is writing the screenplay herself.
After seeing how passionate readers are about staying true to the books, it makes me happy knowing the original author has such a hands-on role in bringing Daphne and Miles’ story to the screen.
So…Which One Am I Most Excited For?
As excited as I am to see all of these adaptations, Funny Story is the one I’m counting down the days for.
It’s my favorite Emily Henry book, and there’s just something about Daphne and Miles’ relationship that completely won me over. Their roommates-to-lovers journey, the humor, the emotional growth, and the slow-burn romance make it such a special story. Knowing that Emily Henry is writing the screenplay herself gives me even more confidence that the heart of the book will make it to the screen.
That said, I’ll be first in line for every Emily Henry adaptation that gets released. If Hollywood wants to keep turning her books into movies, I certainly won’t complain.
